The Wrekin vineyard
The Wrekin Vineyard lies within its own small valley located on the north facing slopes of the larger Fairhall Valley. It is also a part of the sub-region of Marlborough known as the Southern Valleys. Jan and Andrew along with their family began planting on the north facing slopes of these foothills in 2002 with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and later Chenin Blanc.
This is one of the highest vineyards in the valley. Its ancient clay soils overlying greywacke parent rock are significantly different from the loess soils occurring in the lower areas. The elevation, rolling hillside and orientation of the vineyard blocks, which were established on undisturbed soils, also contribute to the unique terroir of this site. 30 hectares of rolling slopes now form The Wrekin vineyard, certified BioGro organic and biodynamically farmed.

Poured over remaining 75% whole bunches for pressing: the heads and tails of pressing to stainless steel(60%) for primary fermentation, the hearts to old neutral puncheon for primary fermentation to complement and enhance phenolics. Full MLF, left on fine lees for 18 months, before bottling without fining or filtration, 70mg/ total sulphites, vegan friendly.

2020 Fractal Pinot Noir, Ashmore vineyard, Southern valleys, Marlborough
Colere Fractal Pinot Noir
Mix of clones - 777, 667, 114, 115, 10/5 828, 943.
100% whole bunch fermentation, this wine's creation comes about by one subtle change in technique, simply the draining of the tank! After the free run wine for the Ashmore vineyard Pinot Noir was drained off the skins and sent to its new home , this separate component was left to gently filter through the weight of it’s skins over night, finding it’s own path picking up the final elements of the stems, skins and seeds. This percolation concentrates the tannins, broadens the pallet and shifts the tannins back. This wine is as much about richness as it is concentration and boldness.
Aged in 70% older oak puncheon, 30% stainless steel aging on fine lees for 12 months, before blending and aging for a further six months, bottled without fining or filtration after 18 months, 40mg/L total sulphites, vegan friendly.
Gold medal - Dish Magazine, The best Pinot Noirs in New Zealand 2023. “Classically cloudy from not being fined or filtered, this organically grown tamarillo-scented pinot boasts pure, uninhibited roast rhubarb flavours that are restless and looking to dance. Expertly handled astringency lurks on the insides of your upper lip through fine-grained, grippy tannins. For the adventurous”. https://dish.co.nz/drinks/tasting-panels/when-you-wish-upon-a-noir/
94/100 "A lovely bouquet of fresh and dried red berry fruits and autumn leaves, sweet wood scents and baking spices of cinnamon and vanilla. There’s an earthy quality with crumbled stone scents. Quite youthful on the palate with a tautness from tannins and acidity then contrasting flavours of red apple, strawberry and cherry. Tannins are a mix of fine needle point and coarse silk in texture and long with acidity layers in a youthful structure." Excellent - Cam Douglas MS
94/100 “Meaty, powerful, and dense, it showcases dense, brooding red fruits with with a bloody, mineral, almost iron-edged accent. Velvety smooth with fine-grained tannin diffusion on the back of the palate, carries the lengthy finish. A wine of impressive power and potential, promising rewarding cellaring for those who can wait.” Excellent - Sammy Wilkinson
“Very different style from the Ashmore vineyard bottling… dark fruit more dominant, more weight and concentration, dark wild berry, hint of sour cherry and spice notes, peppery, easy flow, gentle acids, smooth tannins… enveloping, generous and authentic” Excellent – John Saker

Kerner Estate Vineyard
The Kerner vineyard is a small, family-run organic vineyard which surrounds the Kerners house in Fareham Lane, Marlborough. A gifted site nestled at the confluence of the Wairau and Waihopai Rivers at the western end of the Wairau Valley. Its dense soils providing length and concentration, and cooler temperatures provided by the slightly elevated geographical position and being some distance from the sea, allowing the grapes ripen to slower, intensifying and protecting lifted and fresh aromatics.
The Kerners have just over 10 ha of land of which over 8 ha are in grapes, all cultivated within a biological framework of ecological agriculture and certified organic. The vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the remainder to Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.
It’s the latter variety that has taken connoisseurs by surprise. There is not a lot of Pinot Blanc planted in Marlborough, or NZ for that matter, with only 27Ha planted nationally. Planted as something different to trial, their Pinot Blanc has become one of a few examples in the country, desired by a small number of keen aficionados, winemakers included. This blended with the Pinot Gris giving more appeal and recognition by wine drinkers.
Non-Vintage blend. Pinot Blanc – Pinot Gris Kerner Vineyard,, Marlborough
Non-vintage SolEra
A unique and interesting wine on the New Zealand wine scene today.
A Non-Vintage blend from this gifted site in Marlborough. One-barrel of 2012 Pinot Gris/Blanc, two-barrels of 2016 Pinot Gris and three-barrels of 2017 Pinot Blanc, with a ‘Little Touch of Riesling (LTR) to lift.
All handpicked fruit, wild barrel ferments, bottled un-filtered. Fermented and captured by/with the culture of three winemakers. Hopefully allowing the expression of the site and Vineyard to come through and reveal further elements of its nature.
Aromas of honeyed bees wax, poached pear, dried fruits, spice and sweet meadow hay. This is a rich, full and complex wine supported by crisp acidity, phenolic weight and freshness. Dry on the pallet with a nice acid tail to finish. Loads of texture and personality.
Note - Unfortunately, this vineyard has been sold. The new owners removed organic/biodynamic practices the 2017 season. Hence a new label, setting aside from Colere philosophies of certified organic/biodynamic wine growing and making.
